"as we walkd out of the flat my brother looked at my sideways and said you are going to wear that?"

This is a very hard time for waris brother to accept that his sister is wearing european clothes. For Waris it is normal. It takes time for waris brother to get used that her sister is no longer wearing somali clothes, she is wearing thight jeans with normal top. By the way Waris brother Can't change his mind over a day. I choose this quote beacuse i can understand waris brother. He came from a country where all women and girls wearing somali clothes and shawl but suddenly everything changes after seeing his own sister with europeen clothes.

"they shoot at everything if they are high or bored-anything except khat smugglers"

To just shoot a person when you are bored are the sickest thing a man can do. This proves that the killers have no heart, no respect and totaly brainwashed. Anyway why don't the killers murder the khat smugglers? My thoughts about this are that the killer's need khat and steal it from the smugglers that's why they dont kill the smugglers. This is a sign of a bad country and you can't even trust your own people. (The problem is not only in somalia)

"When i was a girl, all of his attention was for the boys"

She is talking about her father who didn't care about waris when she was kid beacuse she was a girl. The boys have more value then the girls. The parents belive is that the sons will be their future solutions beacuse the girls are getting married and have their own lifes with their in-laws. This usually happens in poor countries. I think this is not a positive sign, parents should love their children equal no matter what.

Team debate Tuesday

Topics of debate

What is a team debate? The main purpose of a team debate is to discuss the pros and cons of an idea. A chairperson controls the actual debate and makes sure members of each team stick to the rules. Each team tries to convince the audience that their arguments are the best. The team members take turns talking and should keep in mind what has just been said by the opposing team and try to connect to this. In this way the debate becomes a dialogue between those who are for and those who are against the topic currently discussed. (Source: Blueprint A by Christer Lundfall)

Here are this year's topics. The class will be divided into two groups where one group is doing team debating and the other group is preparing for something else. Your group will have the chance to choose two out of the following four topics to be discussed:

1) Abortion - Should abortion be permitted? Background research could be made here.

2) Should examinations be replaced with other forms of assessment? Read about this here.

3) Should assisted suicide be legalized? Euthanasia. Background reading given here.

Read and inform yourselves on the two topics of your choice. Consider both pros and cons, you will never know which role in the discussion you are to take until we start in class.
